In this edition of Meet the Team, we talk to Mat Burrell, Managing Director at AssetTagz, who joined AssetTagz in 2023. Having spent his entire 25 year career in IT, Mat joined us from Prima Solutions, the ERP Software specialists for clothing, footwear, accessories and homeware.

Now, six months into the role at AssetTagz, we ask Mat what has stood out for him in that time:

“For me, it is all about the team. Everybody that works here is passionate about delivering fabulous value to our customers, playing their part in solving problems, and continuously looking for value-adds.

“I’ve made it my business in these first few months to really learn about the construction industry and to understand where AssetTagz is adding value. So, I’ve got out and about and been to trade shows, met our customers and been out to project sites to really see AssetTagz in action. Of course, every site, every project and every customer tells a different story, but they all talk about the value that AssetTagz is adding.”

What would you say is the stand-out feature of the solution?

“The power of AssetTagz in my view is that it brings together lots of different concepts: whether that is remaining compliant with health and safety, checking that people are certified to access equipment, taking greater control of the supply chain, or getting visibility beyond the office out onto sites on the ground.

And, while it is functionally rich, AssetTagz is also intuitive. Of course, there are elements of what we do out there in the market, but nobody is bringing it together in a simple, easy to use, intuitive application. It is also quick to deploy and this means that our customers start to see real, meaningful benefits quickly too. That, essentially, is the beauty of it for me.

AssetTagz helps our customers look after what they’ve already got. It gives them control, visibility and accountability across everything that they’re doing. And when I say that, you instantly think of assets and stock, but importantly, it is also about people. It helps them look after their staff, their on-site teams. I always say: “AssetTagz keeps people working and keeps people working safely.”

Outside of work, Mat is a family man and a lover of the outdoors. He lives with his partner and their children in the Peak District.

“I would definitely describe us an outdoorsy family. In fact, it was a shared love of the great outdoors and travel that brought my partner and I together, so, for us, the Peak District is a fabulous place to live.

I always wanted to work for small to medium sized businesses, never large corporates, where you feel you can really make a difference. I’ve always been happy to do any job and I’ve always led by example in that sense. It’s so important in an SME to be as mindful and respectful of my colleagues as my customers and my competitors as my suppliers.”

Asked what the future holds for AssetTagz, Mat responds: “When I think about the future, I am excited about building on solid foundations. I have been brought in to build for the future and it is a joy to work with this team as we move the business forward.”
