Byrne Group uses training records for on-the-job training
AssetTagz are delighted to announce that its first Training Records project, which is with Byrne Group, one of the UK’s most innovative and forward thinking Construction companies, has gone live.
Training records from AssetTagz, ensures training attendance and certificates are recorded against individuals’ records automatically. This removes paperwork and administration overheads from the process, and actually validates worker eligibility to undertake particular types of work or use specific tools or equipment.
Byrne Group has been working with AssetTagz for a number of years to manage, track and get visibility of their plant equipment and stock. They use RFID tags, RFID enabled ID cards and handheld devices to manage their assets. AssetTagz also interfaces with the COINS plant Manager module to automate the Issue and Return of these assets.
Now training records allows Byrne Group to record training information on its handheld computers too. Attendees are recorded using their RFID-enabled identity cards and are asked to sign on-screen to confirm that they attended and understood the course. AssetTagz also records whether translation of the course is required on an individual basis, ideal for a company like Byrne who have workers with a diverse range of first languages. All data recorded is sychronised with a web-hosted database. As with the asset management, training records also interfaces securely with the COINS Human Resources module so details of training attendance is recorded automatically on Byrne Group’s personnel records.
AssetTagz says, “Training records was borne out of the basic premise of thinking of people as assets too. If peoples’ records are viewed as asset records, recording training information by means of a handheld device greatly resolves any Health & Safety issues around training and establishes a robust platform for training management, H&S compliance and HR auditing.”
Byrne Group has been using training records to record training data for workers in the field on their many construction sites since April of this year with evident success, as Matthew Preston, Group IT Director at Byrne Group explains: “With Health & Safety at the top of our agenda, we use training records to record details of on-the-job training so we can be sure that workers are trained to use certain equipment. The great benefit is that the information is recorded immediately so there is no relay with paperwork. Also, since we employ workers with a range of first languages, the fact that we can record details of who needs translation and who actually translated the course content for them is extremely useful. The integration with the COINS HR system is a huge plus for us and was one of our principal requirements when we set about designing the implementation.
Byrne are always on the look-out for different, better, safer and more cost effective ways of doing things and so we were delighted to be there at the start of this new venture with AssetTagz.”
