Meet the Team – Rob Boughton
In this month’s edition of Meet the Team, we talk to Rob Boughton, a Support Engineer at AssetTagz.
“As a child, I never aspired to be an astronaut or a pilot. I always wanted to be an electrician, so that’s what I did!”
Rob did indeed study electrical engineering, and his path to IT support began during his role as commercial refrigeration engineer, as he explains: “Commercial units connect to controllers, which in turn are connected to the internet. Things kept breaking and there wasn’t always IT support available to us, so, I ended up working through the issues myself. This peaked my interest in IT support so I went to night school to study it and shortly afterwards I got my first IT support role in a software company.”
Rob joined AssetTagz back in 2014 and hasn’t looked back. Asked what he likes about working for AssetTagz, he says that as a company we are very good at a quick resolution. “We are very proactive in resolving issues quickly which I take great pride in. It has been that long that I think of my technical colleagues as family, and I certainly think of my customers as friends. We have a good rapport and there is always good humour when we connect.
In terms of the company itself, being part of the Leo Lion Group and the Foundation it supports makes me feel that we are in safe hands. By giving a percentage of the profits of all the Leo Lion companies to fund the foundation, it is a force for good – and a whole new way of doing business.”
Asked what his greatest work achievement is, Rob says: “Taking the decision to move to the Azure Platform, and then making it happen. We did this to achieve scaleability, and to be in complete control of our own destiny. The shift to Azure will also support our future plans to move to the Azure App Service. We envisage a subscription based self-service app in the medium term. This will benefit SME’s in particular, and also open up new markets for AssetTagz.”
A staunch Liverpool fan, outside of work, Rob lives an enviable life on a coastal small holding in North Wales where he keeps chickens and grows vegetables and, in his own words, ‘makes things with wood.’
Asked how he’d like to be known at work, Rob replies: “The Fixer. Easy going. And for people to know that there are no stupid questions as far as my colleagues or my customers are concerned. I never want anybody to feel like they can’t ask for help, however insignificant they might think the question is.”
